LUCAS

HUSCH

A Filipino-American queer artist and designer from Michigan who grew up with a love for the macabre, Fashion, and fine arts.

“I remember the influence fashion accessories had on my life through my family. The infamous Ismelda Marcos’s collection influenced my grandmother’s obsession with statement pieces. My grandfather’s first purchase in America was a pair of Chucks. This love, or obsession, was passed down to my mother, who, like her mother, used the guest room as a walk-in closet.

Growing up surrounded by designer handbags, shoes, and the occasional knock-off made a lasting impression on my personal style. My goal is to be the next impactful designer in their collections.”

My philosophy

  • Sustainability & Cyclical Processes

Taking Action to improve the use of sustainable and cyclical processes is a necessity now more than ever.

As a designer, I use second-hand materials (discarded scraps, upcycled handbags, and found items) in my processes.

I also focus on creating a cyclical process where materials are constanly in a cycle of being reused until zero-waste is accomplished. I do this by collaborating with other designers to incorporate their waste into my future projects.

  • Alternative aesthetic

Eight years in the Catholic School system, I felt confined by the mandatory khaki pants, sweater-vests, and polo shirts. I actively chose to define my personal style in stark contrast to the mandatory dress.

Sustainability is often associated with quiet luxury & minimalist trends. Instead of leaning in this direction, I consciously rebel against that narrative by embracing sustainability in a loud, raw, and bolder fashion.

Showing that sustainability can be Punk, as it in fact always has been.

The Star

The Seven-Pointed Star, a prevalent motif in my work, holds a multitude of symbolism.

Religiously, the star represents the Seven Days of Creation. The time at which our world was created.

In alchemy, the star represents the classical planets and cosmic balance.

Subculturally, this is a common symbol for individuals who identify as “otherkin” or not entirely human.

Raised Catholic with a healthy obsession with the occult, I find the symbolism of the Seven-Pointed Star to be a tool for my creative process.

It is the leading inspiration of the cosmic balance, divine creation, and an otherworldly presence that I use as a foundation in my work.
